Film Forum was established in the year 1970, with 50 chairs a projector and an Annual budget of $19,000. This theater provided space for alternative screening of independent movies. Today Film Forum, is a 3screen cinema with round the clock opening, 472 seats,59 employees and an operating budget of $4.1 million. Film Forum presents two distinct complementary film programs- Screening of American Independents and foreign art films, there is also repertory selection of American and foreign Classics, genre works, festivals and retrospectives.

The third screen is dedicated to more extended viewing of popular selections from both programs as well as new films for longer durations. Film Forum is the only autonomous non-profit cinema in New York city and one of the few existing in the US. Film Forum represents cinemas of innovative and diverse ideas. Film Forum is committed in presenting an alignment of international films that depict diverse social, political,historical and cultural realities. It gives special attention to thoughtfully curved and unique cinematic qualities with historical relevance particularly documentaries featuring elements of today's world.

Viewers who are interested can purchase tickets on line up to 7 days in advance and 30 minutes before show time, for single features. He prices of the tickets are $10.50, for members, children below 12 and senior citizens and groups the prices are less. Film Forum accepts all major credit cards namely Visa, AMEX, Maser cards and Discover. There is a $1service charge per ticket. Tickets once purchased cannot be exchanged or refunded.
